Is self-awareness as important as self-love?

That’s like comparing apples and oranges. Both are great, and a necessary part of life.

“Self-love is a good thing but self- awareness is more important. You need to once in a while go ‘Uh, I’m kind of an a**hole’…”

    — Louis C.K.

This is only to a certain degree, as it’s easy to allow self-awareness to slowly turn into lack of self-esteem, and a whole host of other insecurities.

I’d say self-awareness is closely tied to emotional intelligence/EQ. I once dated somebody who had an IQ that would make Einstein blush, yet the inability to navigate emotions, was rather off putting. Perhaps I demanded too much?!

The really awesome thing about getting older is the ability to be more discerning – of others, and ourselves. Accessorised with trinkets of knowing ourselves better, honing our skills, spending time/resources/effort on what we truly enjoy. It’s magical, beautiful, and wonderful.

As we express more self-love, we become more self-aware. As we become more self-aware, the self-love cup, overflows… The two go hand in hand, and are inextricably linked!
